Yearbook Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why are your prices so much cheaper than other Yearbook Companies?

A: Unlike most other Yearbook Companies we are trade book printers (we also print for other Yearbook companies). And because we print in-house our Yearbook prices are therefore very competitively priced. So confident are we in our pricing that we will beat any other like for like UK Yearbook Company price by 20%.

Q: How quickly can you deliver?

A: Printing in-house we provide a very fast and efficient service. Our average dispatch time is 5 to 7 working days from proof approval. At peak times of the year this can increase to 2 weeks so we always suggest letting us know if you are planning on ordering a yearbook so we can book it into our Production Schedule to guarantee delivery by the date you need them. However, we try to keep everyone happy so if you have an urgent requirement please contact us as soon as you are able and we will try our best to slot you in.

Q: How long should I allow?

A: As mentioned above our average dispatch time is 5 to 7 working days from final proof approval. However, to take full advantage of our FREE printed proof prior to printing the main batch and carefully check your work, we advise aiming to complete your yearbook 1 month before the date you need it. This gives you ample time to look over the PDF proof we will send you if you have designed it on our online system; make any required changes and receive another PDF proof; then after approving that we can process and send you a FREE printed proof; you may once you see photos want to make further minor amendments. So in our experience of printing yearbooks for over 10 years you should be aiming for 1 month prior to delivery.

Q: How do we create the cover?

A: Our FREE sample yearbook has guides to help you create artwork for your cover. However we also understand not everyone has the software or expertise to create stunning cover artwork so if required we will create your Cover for you for FREE.

Q: My logo has a white background, how do I remove it?

A: It is likely you have uploaded it as a jpg. JPGs cannot be saved with a transparent background. So if you have a PDF or PNG of your logo or crest with a transparent background upload and use that version. You can create a transparent background version in Photoshop. If you are really struggling send us your logo or crest via and we will try to assist.

Q: What sizes can I have?

A: Our premium yearbooks are A4 Portrait like our printed sample yearbook, but we also print cheaper smaller B5 and A5 yearbooks. The majority of our school yearbooks are Portrait aspect ratio but we also offer Square versions in different sizes.

Q: What is the minimum and maximum page count I can have in our yearbook?

A: For Hardback and Softback books 40 pages is our minimum recommended page count otherwise they are too thin to bind. You can have up to 300 pages.

Q: What format do I send my yearbook to you in?

A: If you don’t wish to use our online Yearbook Design Software and want to have full offline control of your yearbook we would suggest using Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Publisher or Microsoft Powerpoint. Once your yearbook is ready just output it as a print ready high resolution PDF file with 3mm bleed plus crop marks. If you struggle with this you can send us the packaged InDesign, Publisher or Powerpoint files with all associated graphics, fonts and links via or send them to us on a memory stick and we can try to add the bleed for you if you have missed it off.

Q: Can I use my design from a previous year as an online template?

A: Yes you can retrieve the yearbook you made the previous year (not from further back though). Please login to you account then go to your Previous Orders page Then click Re-order which moves it to the Shopping Basket and from there click Edit that moves it back to a new Design Project.

Q: What is your minimum quantity?

A: Our minimum order is very simple, there is no minimum order quantity and you can order just 1 yearbook if you wish. However the cost per yearbook goes down the more you order so to make it an economical exercise we would advise ordering at least 10 yearbooks and to receive our FREE printed proof and FREE delivery the minimum order quantity is 20 Yearbooks.

Q: Can we see a printed sample of our book before we order?

A: YES. Our FREE sample yearbook gives a good demonstration of our binding and yearbook printing quality. However, to make sure you have not missed anything, YES we also provide a FREE printed proof (if time allows) before printing the main run, but this is only after ordering your yearbook and as long as you are ordering 20 or more.

Q: What software do you recommend we use to create our yearbook?

A: If you wish to work offline we recommend using Adobe InDesign which is the world’s leading professional design software. But we understand not everyone has access to this and Mircosoft Publisher which comes with Microsoft Office is a popular and adequate alternative. Some Schools also produce Yearbooks using Powerpoint. Whichever package you use please ensure you set up the master document with 3mm bleed when you create it. If you are unsure how to do that please contact us and we will guide you through how to do this, but a quick easy solution in Publisher is to setup your document 216mm x 303mm with a 3mm margin, so the margin guide in effect becomes your visual guide to where the page will be trimmed to when print finishing.

Q: How much is delivery?

A: Delivery of your main run and the printed proof is FREE. For re-orders and re-prints of quantities less than 20 yearbooks delivery is £12.

Q: Can ASK design our yearbook?

A: Yes we can, but this will have additional costs. Our aim is make your yearbook as competitively priced as possible, which is why we’ve created lots of sample layouts and templates in both InDesign & Publisher to both help you and inspire you.

Q: What size does my Hardback Cover need to be?

A: Hardback covers are larger than the actual yearbook and the artwork wraps around the cover and underneath the endpaper on the inside of the cover. This is called cover wrap bleed and is 15mm. A hardback cover spine is 4mm thicker than the inside pages book block. If you advise the number of pages we can advise the spine width. So a Hardback cover spread width is: 15mm cover wrap bleed (not viewable) + 218mm back board + spine width + 218mm front board + 15mm cover wrap bleed. A Hardback cover spread height is: 15mm cover wrap bleed + 303mm board + 15mm cover wrap bleed. So for a 40 page hardback that has a 7.5mm spine the Cover Spread needs to be: 473.5mm x 333mm

Q: What can we put inside our yearbook?

A: We hope this guide and our website provide you some helpful examples and suggestions and our Online Yearbook Design Software has lots of Templates, Layouts, Backgrounds and ClipArt to assist you. But we can only give you suggestions and your yearbook is your yearbook so let your creativity run wild.

Q: If we run out of yearbooks can we re-order?

A: Yes, we hold all artwork on file for three years. Re-prints need to be ordered in multiples of 2 for A4 size and multiples of 4 for A5 size, and we hold the same price per Yearbook for re-prints as the initial price per yearbook. However, depending on the print quantity we may on occasions have to charge a small delivery fee for re-prints.

Q: Will you ship your yearbooks overseas?

A: Yes, we are happy to print yearbooks to schools anywhere in the world. In fact this year we have already shipped 170 98 page A4 hardback yearbooks to an English School in Singapore and 2 Yearbooks to Paris. For deliveries outside of the UK delivery is not included in the price and we normally ship by UPS.
